ASSINIBOINE PARK ZOO

Explore over 378 acres (153 hectares) along the Assiniboine River, The
Zoo, Conservatory, English Garden, Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, Tudor-style
pavilion and a fine example of a French formal garden are just a
few of the features found in the park. Picnic areas, cycling
and walking trails are popular with visitors. In winter, enjoy
cross-country skiing, tobogganing and skating on the Duck Pond.

STATUE
Did you know that the famous children's character Winnie the Pooh was
named after Winnipeg? There is a statue commemorating Winnie
the bear and her owner, Captain Harry Colebourn at the Zoo.

ART IN THE PARK

A City of Winnipeg initiative designed to permit professional and amateur
artists to create, exhibit and sell their art along the walkway in Assiniboine
Park that connects the Assiniboine Park Footbridge with the Assiniboine
Park Pavilion or within the grassed area fronting the Assiniboine Park
Conservatory.

View 10 different displays each year in the Floral Display Gallery, including
Orchid and Bonsai shows and a special holiday lights display over the
Christmas Season. Dating from 1914, the Palm House exhibits a tropical
jungle where visitors can walk under a canopy of mature tropical trees
to admire orchids selected from the Conversatory's extensive collection. The
Gift Shop offers unique gifts for the gardener in everyone. The
Garden Restaurant serves light meals and refreshments in a garden atmosphere.

Experience the Lyric Theatre, an outdoor bandshell devoted to free live
entertainment all summer long. Located just east of the Pavilion,
the Lyric is a place where families can enjoy wonderful entertainment,

The Pavilion Gallery Museum offers an exceptional opportunity to experience
the fine art of three premiere Manitoba artists. The works of Walter
J. Phillips and Clarence Tillenius are located on the second level of
the Gallery; the artwork of Ivan Eyre is located on the third floor.
A temporary gallery devoted to emerging Manitoba artists is located on
the second floor. The Pavilion Gallery also features the original
Winnie the Pooh painting. Free Admission. Guided tours available.

KILDONAN PARK

Walk among some of the oldest and largest trees in Manitoba,
through a formal garen and Hansel & Gretel's "Witch
Hut". The park is also home to Canada's longest-running
outdoor theatre, Rainbow Stage. An Olympic-size swimming
pool and plenty of picnic tables and barbeque pits are available
in the summer. The toboggan slides and skating pond are
open in the winter.

Featuring hills and ridges formed by
ancient glaciers, this 35 sq. km/22 sq. mi. acre park has a lake,
oak and aspen forest, native prairie wildflowers, deer, waterfowl
and songbirds. Facilities include camping, swimming, picnic sites,
a riding stable, a restaurant, a beach concession and a convenience
store. There are 30km/18.5 miles of trails for walking and
cross-country skiing and 7.2km / 4.5mi. of paved bicycle and rollerblading
trails. Every July, the park hosts the Winnipeg
Folk Festival.

Resting along the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg - Canada's fifth
largest lake - and next to the historic La Verendrye Trail, are
powdery white sand beaches and grass-topped dunes that make this
one of the top beaches in North America. The dunes reach as high
as 8m /30ft. It is an excellent place to swim, wind surf or hike,
and offers three excellent self-guided walks: Spirit Rock Trail,
Wild Wings Trail and the Ancient Beach Trail.

Bordering on the Red River, King's Park has many pathways (gravel
and paved) for people to enjoy, some of which lead to marshland.
In the centre of the park, you will find beautiful Japanese Pagoda
gardens. The Park also has a soccer field and two baseball
diamonds, and the south end of the park is an off-lease dog park.
