Gigantour
Featuring Megadeth
Winnipeg Convention Centre
Saturday, May 10, 5:00pm
Gigantour is the name of an annual six-week traveling
heavy metal music festival organized by Megadeth's
Dave Mustaine. The tour was founded in 2005 with dates
across North America, and the 2006 and 2007 line-ups
also travelled to Australia. The bands appearing at
the festival were chosen by Mustaine because he wanted
to "put together a festival that consisted of
positive bands that play heavy music in a high energy
environment."
Among the stated goals of the tour are to cater to
fans of many different styles of metal, as well as
to introduce fans to less familiar acts. This is accomplished
through the second stage, which hosts less-well-known
metal bands.
Tickets:
$42.50 - $280.00

Melanie C
The Garrick Centre
Sunday, May 11, 7:00pm
You didn't have to be an avid Spice-watcher to know that,
with 'Northern Star', Melanie fared far better commercially
and critically than did her former colleagues with their
own first individual projects.'It's me on a plate, pretty
much'. This is how Melanie Chisholm describes the content
of 'Reason', her second solo project, and follow-up to
1999's much loved and multi-platinum debut, 'Northern Star'.
And what a gourmet feast she represents. With her vocals
displaying a new warmth and maturity, and her songwriting
yet more boldly assured and energetic than before, she
is set to turn any remaining preconceptions about her upside
down.
Tickets:
$32.50

Subconscious City
Winnipeg Art
Gallery
February 15 - May 11
Subconscious City examines the often hidden underpinnings of Winnipeg
– its myths, its vacant lots, its forgotten communities,
its hidden gems – and reveals a complicated picture of where
we live and work. More than a tourist snapshot or glossy one-great-city
image, this contemporary exhibition delves deeply into the nature
of our urban social and physical landscape and its power to shape
identity. An outstanding roster of 27 local artists, reflecting
different media, different stages in their careers, and different
points of view, will be featured in this artful expression of civic
pride.
