Proclaimers
The Pyramid Cabaret
Sunday, May 4, 8:00pm
When the Scottish duo of Craig and Charlie Reid emerged in 1987,
they were immediately compared to the Everly Brothers. Considering
their energetic, melodic folk-rock, the comparison made some sense,
even though the Proclaimers didn't really sound like the Everlys.
Instead, the band was a post-punk pop band, aggressively displaying
their thick accents on sweet, infectiously melodic songs about
love, politics, and life in Scotland.

heavy music in a high energy environment." Among the stated

of metal, as well as to introduce fans to less familiar acts.

Melanie C
The Garrick Centre
Sunday, May 11, 7:00pm
You didn't have to be an avid Spice-watcher to know that,

of 'Reason', her second solo project, and follow-up to
1999's much loved and multi-platinum debut, 'Northern Star'.

George Thorogood
& The Destroyers
MTS
Center
Friday, May 23
A blues-rock guitarist who draws his inspiration from Elmore
James, Hound Dog Taylor, and Chuck Berry, George Thorogood never
earned much respect from blues purists, but he became a popular
favorite in the early '80s through repeated exposure on FM radio
and the arena rock circuit. Thorogood's music was always loud,
simple, and direct -- his riffs and licks were taken straight
out of '50s Chicago blues and rock & roll -- but his formulaic
approach helped him gain a rather large audience in the '80s,
when his albums regularly went gold.

release CD).

with the riffs and speed of Led Zeppelin, as well as adding
a vicious two-lead guitar attack; in doing so, they set
the pace for much popular heavy metal from 1975 until 1985,
as well as laying the groundwork for the speed and death
metal of the '80s.

Def Leppard
MTS

Wednesday, August 13, 7:30pm
Def Leppard, in many ways, was the definitive hard
rock band of the '80s. There were many bands that
rocked harder, and were more dangerous, than the
Sheffield quintet, but few others captured the spirit
of the times quite as well. Their debut album On
Through the Night (1980) was a hit and Def Leppard
joined groups like AC/DC and Ted Nugent among the
heavy hitters of arena rock. Their 1983 album Pyromania
(and its single "Rock of Ages") made them
early stars of MTV.

Oasis
MTS Center
Monday, September 1, 7:30pm
The Britpop band Oasis rose from obscurity to become the most popular
U.K.-based rock band of the mid-1990s. Eleven years after their
first gig, eight years after their first album, five years after
the mid-nineties madness started to subside, there's no mystery
why millions still love Oasis: honesty. The men are honest, the
music is honest. We trust Oasis. That's why, one Saturday morning
this winter, when 120,000 tickets went on sale for the band's two
summer shows at Finsbury Park, Noel Gallagher was able to take
a call from his manager by lunchtime to say that all the tickets
had gone. "That's without them hearing any of the new stuff," says
Noel, shaking his head in admiration.
