Pass
over the spectacular Esplanade Riel Pedestrian Bridge and you'll
find yourself in Old Saint Boniface, the heart of Winnipeg's
French culture and home to the largest fancophone community
west of the Great Lakes. Saint Boniface was first settled in
1818 when the Roman Catholic Church in Quebec established a
mission to meet the cultural and religious needs of the colony's
French and Metis inhabitants. As the oldest part of Saint Boniface,
the French Quarter is filled with restaurants, shops and attractions
and is home to many sites of historical and cultural significance.
